What are the responsibilities artists should have with their clients in the fandom?
They should deliver the product on-time and at price to the best of their ability, and communicate when this can't be done so that alternative arrangements can be made.
Should the client check up on the artist or should the artist be proactive an give their clients an updated status on their work?
Artists should be proactive in my opinion.
How long should a client wait for the finished product?
I think the artists should try to estimate up-front, and update the estimate along the way. Leeway depends on complexity, but drawings shouldn't need several months to complete.
Is there a certain dollars value per month that should be worked out as a standard for all artists?
No; Let the market dictate. If people want to pay a ton of money for dog dicks, let them.
Are clients entitled to a rough draft of the work in progress?
For complicated pieces, I think very quick sketches are helpful. For quick stuff, I'd say no. I think that character references and written out ideas are useful and eliminate confusion.
Is anyone writing up official contracts for artwork?
Lawyers do for big ones. A small informal one might be useful, but not for stuff under $30, I'd say.
Are people paying cash or by more certifiable means?
Cash, check, CC, and Paypal is all I know of. Google Checkout might be used in the future. I say that the most certifiable means is half-down, half on completion.
Do artists or clients have lawyers?
Yes, but I doubt most furry ones do.
